If you’re like me: a Picasa and Flickr user, and you’re cursing every known god because Yahoo bought Flickr instead of Google then your prayers have been answered, or kind of…
There’s nothing personal against Yahoo or towards Google, but Picasa would be the ideal desktop client for Flickr. But now there’s a way to integrate both applications:
Login to your Flickr account and check the email you can use to upload photos by using the Upload by Email link.
Now we must configure the email in Picasa, go to the Email tab (Tools -> Options) check the Use my Gmail Account and insert your Gmail username (haven’t got one? just send me an email and I’ll give you an invitation), you can also set the image size used for resizing the pictures before uploading them.
By now we’re able to send photos to Flickr, choose one and click the Email button at the bottom, Flickr will ask you for your login details.
Insert the email provided by Flickr in the To field
You may also insert the photo’s title (Title field) and description (Message Area field)
Click Send and that’s it!!
There’s only a small problem: there’s no way to define any tags here, you just go to Flickr to do so.
Still, it’s a cool tip for users of both these tools (at least I thought so when I read it) and hopefully there will be a way to integrate them closer in the near future.
By the way take a peek to the column on your right to see what I’ve been uploading…
