It seems Nikon is phasing out film cameras and focus completely to digital (http://www.nikon.co.uk/press_room/releases/show.aspx?rid=201), nothing that you woudn’t expectd sooner or later, it’s another nail in photo film’s coffin, just like Agfa closing down or the doubts on Illford’s future.
Some time ago I went to the a photo lab near my house, it’s not one of those extra small 1 hour photo places, looking for Kodak T-Max (black & white film), the guy looked at me with a smile and said: We don’t have that anymore. You’ll find that just in a few places. Nowadays it’s impossible to get B&W film in regular shops, I can only get in pro shops, and color film is also getting harder to find.
I’m not one of those old fashined guys that keep complaining to everything that’s new, in fact I already own a digital SLR and I couldn’t be happier (well, I could be happier but then my budget would have severe a problem), but I still love, and use, my twenty year old Nikon FM2 with my beloved Ilford Delta 400 (another B&W film)…
I guess that’s how things will evolve, but if film completely disapears my life plan to buy my dream camera will be ruined…
