I just created a pipe (the little Swiss army knife of Web 2.0) that merges my most recent favourite photos in several photo galleries and bookmarking services: Flickr, Zooomr, deviantArt, vi.sualize.us, we♥it.

The Metro Paris Subway iPhone application must be one of the coolest uses of augmented reality I’ve seen. Next time I’ll go to there I’ll must try out (assuming the problems with Android version are solved).
You probably have read a lot of things about about the new feature released in Google Android 2.0: Google Maps Navigation, a free turn-by-turn navigation system for Android mobile devices (also refered as standalone GPS terminal killer). And probably you have read it in a technology or gadget news source, but it’s about time to ear it from an unbiased source, or at least one that doesn’t care about Google’s “cool factor” and won’t evaluate the “geeky” aspects of the device. Fortunately the guys at AutoBlog have came to the rescue and provided a different perspective:

Mário Pires has an interesting challenge for the forthcoming Sunday: a #mobilephotowalk! It’s a simple challenge, inspired by Chase Jarvis “The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You”, and limited to something as ubiquitous as a camera phone (no fancy lenses or cameras). There will be a real photowalk at Óbidos, but you can take part everywhere in the world.

There’s another contender in the “Application Launcher tools for Windows” department, to get a place among long-time favorites like Launchy or Enso. It’s called Blaze and it adds something new to the typical set of features you may find in tools like this: not only indexes programs and files but, among other things, it can monitor and detect repetitive tasks. Looks pretty neat, and considering Launchy hasn’t evolved in the last 18 months this might become the ultimate Application Launcher for Windows.

I finally decided to move my techie blog from the free public host where it lived for some years to my own paid host, where, among others, I already have photo blog. The blog has been upgraded but the concept remains the same, to host my various technology related posts, but with a new twist: posts in Portuguese. I don’t have a “blog post rate” that justifies creating a new blog in Portuguese, so the solution will be having a new section in this one.
Although all the posts have been migrated here the old version still lives as a backup in read-only mode.

I’m a big fan of Twitter, it’s a pretty simple service and a great way to share thoughts with the “cloud” and interact with people, is even useful for organizations to get closer to their followers/clients/etc. Magnum Photos is one of those organizations that seems to know how to use it, and if your were paying attention to their Twitter account last week you may had seen the tweet shown above, where photographer Larry Towell spared some time to answer the questions of all of those interested in photography and photojournalism.
